Nestled away on winding Gold Street in Manhattan's venerable Financial District, Giardino D'Oro is indeed a golden garden as its name translates. All of Italy’s charm comes to life as co-owners Benny Jakupaj and Nick Vuli welcome regulars and newcomers with open arms. At Giardino D'Oro, food is indeed art with the fine Italian cuisine replete with fresh rolled pastas, exquisite meat and seafood dishes, mouth-watering desserts and an extensive wine list. Attentive yet discreet service in an intimate setting with strains of Sinatra softly crooning in the background set the scene for any situations, from power lunches to romantic evenings.

Beautifully designed, white-clothed tables glisten with 14K gold-rimmed China by Villeroy & Boch, with the earth-toned marble bar gently curving along the side of the dining room. The two floors are elegantly appointed with chandelier lighting, gold Venetian plaster walls and hand-painted murals of Italian towns, villages and gardens. Giardino D’Oro pairs its delicious authentic Italian food with decorative charm to create an unforgettably pleasing dining experience!

When an Italian runs the kitchen, you expect some real Italian food - richly fragrant, Mediterranean and delicious. What a disappointment. The "garlic" mashed potatoes were not only garlic-free --- they were INSTANT, out of a box, freshly re-constituted but still just a few un-finished grains -- not edible. The "Mascarpone-topped pastry" that described their Napoleon had not a drip of Mascarpone. The Asparagus soup, for $8.50, was a "C", drinkable at least. Note to self: DON'T order this again, DO remember when Zagat sends out their ratings cards for next year.

Excellent food, delicious and always a hit at my office dinners. Great delivery too. Pricey, but totally worth it.
